Gloucestershire Parkway (ITEC)

Improving Gloucester’s connectivity and competitiveness.

Flash Movie

Gloucestershire Parkway is a Gloucestershire County Council scheme for a new Railway Station and multimodal transport interchange. It is situated just to the north of the city and the project is known as ITEC (Integrated Transport at Elmbridge Court).

Gloucestershire Parkway

The proposed Gloucestershire Parkway Station will sit astride the Birmingham – Bristol – London intercity main line and a Park and Ride facility will link the station to Gloucester City Centre and Cheltenham Town Centre by express bus services. It is also adjacent to the M5 Motorway and other major roads.

The new Parkway Station will provide a high quality and distinctive arrival point for Gloucester and it will make the city a more attractive and competitive business location and support inward investment.

The current Park @Ride at Arle Court is an example of the success of such schemes, I suspect a very small proportion commuters use this facility. The public will use their cars to get to ITEC, buses are not popular modes of transport!! people who currently walk to Cheltenham Station will use their car rather than catch a bus or two trains, this scheme will create even more traffic .

All the surveys that have asked local people about parkway have shown that Gloucestershire people do not want a rail station built on green belt land, and in particular they object to this scheme.

I think the scheme will be of enormous benefit to the City and its people. It will be re-connected to the main network of fast and frequent inter-City trains and avoid the need to change at Cheltenham to access these services.

Surveys that have been performed on local people indicate that this new station should not be located at Elmbridge. Now that Gloucester Rubgy Club has voted against moving, shouldn't the railway triangle be back up for debate as the correct place to site a new station. Why not let the people decide - have a referendum.
